Pool, Patio & Outdoor Concrete Resurfacing

Can my pool surround be made safer as well as better looking?

Outdoor concrete works hard here. Sun, salt air, rain, pool water and years of foot traffic wear a surface back long before the slab underneath gives up.

These are also the areas where the finish has to do more than look good — it has to be safe underfoot when wet and comfortable in full sun.

Where it applies

Outdoor areas we work on

All the same principles as any resurfacing job — with texture and safety weighted more heavily.

Pool surrounds

Bare feet, water and sun. Texture and slip resistance come before appearance here.

Patios

The area you actually use. Often partly shaded, so wear across the slab can be uneven.

Courtyards

Small, enclosed and highly visible — a modest area where a change of finish is very noticeable.

Pathways

Narrow wear tracks, damp shaded sections and the surface most likely to get slippery.

Verandas & entries

Transition areas that date a house quickly when the finish is worn.

Carports

Vehicle traffic, oil staining and exposure on at least one open side.

Entertaining areas

Furniture, foot traffic, food and drink — surfaces that need to clean up easily.

Suitable stairs & ramps

Where texture and grip matter most, and where a smooth finish is a genuine hazard.

What to think about

Decisions worth making before the finish is chosen

Slip resistance

Wet bare feet around a pool, damp shaded paths and ramps all need texture. Tell your contractor how the area is used before a finish is selected.

Heat and colour

Darker colours absorb more heat in full sun. If the area is used barefoot in summer, lighter tones are usually kinder.

Weather exposure

Salt air, UV and driving rain all shorten the life of a finish. Exposure should influence the system and sealer, not just the colour.

Drainage

Resurfacing follows the existing falls. If water pools now, it will still pool afterwards — sort drainage first.

Cleaning

Entertaining areas need to clean up easily. Very heavy textures grip better but hold more dirt; it's a genuine trade-off.

Maintenance

Outdoor surfaces need occasional attention and periodic resealing. Ask what the ongoing routine looks like before you commit.

If the surface itself is still fine and only the sealer has faded, cleaning and resealing may be all the area needs.
